Chief Executive Officer of Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) S M Munir said that TDAP had been involved in Rs 13.5 billion scams but now corruption is zero in this institution.
Now we are trying to eliminate the mafias, he added. He was addressing the traders, industrialists, office-bearers of different trade organisations at Multan Chamber of Commerce and Industry chaired by Mian Iqbal Hassan.
Munir said that Export Development Fund (EDF) of Rs 25 billion be spent for boosting up exports which are lying unspent in its kitty under EDF projects such as exhibitions, marketing campaigns, establishment of trade offices and alike. These projects are important in providing a capable workforce or facilitating export promotion activities.
However, the impact of such projects is difficult to quantify because of non-tangibility of output. He further said the government should ensure the refunds of Rs 120 billion till August 31 as committed in budget speech by the minister. He said that exports of $4 to 5 billion would increase if government cleared all the refund cases. He opposed the levy of GIDC and increasing the power tariff describing it detrimental to country's industry. He said that Indian influence was growing in Pakistani markets .Indian goods seem to be flooding Pakistani markets. Indian textiles seem to be in fashion amongst Pakistan's elite while Indian poultry, fruits, vegetables and other edible items are now available in the country as well.
He said that our industry would be shut if we failed to minimise its penetration. He said that United Business Group will continue to serve the cause of business community of the country more effectively.
A large number of business leaders from Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Bahawalpur Chambers of Commerce and Industry as well as trade associations and Women Chambers attended the event.
Khawaja Muhammad Yousaf said the United Business Group had been formed in 2014 under the leadership of great business leaders of Pakistan S M Muneer Patron-in-Chief and Iftikhar Ali Malik Chairman who have been rendering great services for the business community of the country and we believe they will pick up sound business leaders democratically to lead the FPCCI in a professional manner.
