Directorate of Intelligence and Investigation (DI and I)-FBR Karachi has seized huge quantity of poppy seeds at Port Qasim; it was learnt here on Monday. According to official sources, the DI and I Export division on secret information intercepted three export containers at Port Qasim, which were sending to Malaysia.
They said that importer had mis-declared goods stuffed in these containers and added that poppy seeds had wrongly been declared as salt in the Good Declaration (GD) submitted at National Logistics Cell (NLC) terminal. They said that these containers had been cleared from NLC terminal and was about to be shipped for Malaysia.
Meanwhile, the DI and I, Exports division, which intercepted the containers, found during examination that out of three containers, two of them were filled with poppy seeds while rest of the container was loaded with salt. They said that the market value of seized poppy seeds was around Rs5 million approximately in the international market.
Consequent upon recovery of mis-declared goods in these containers, an FIR against the importer is in progress and further investigation is underway.
