The Indus River remained in high flood at Taunsa, Guddu, Sukkur and Kotri barrages from Muzaffargarh to Hyderabad/Kotri covering a distance of 400 kms. The river is likely to remain in this state during next eight days, authorities said Monday. The Flood Warning Centre said here that Indus at Chashma is in medium flood level. River Indus at Tarbela, Kalabagh, and River Kabul at Nowshera and River Chenab at Khanki and Qadirabad are in low flood.
Punjab Irrigation Department has said that Taunsa Barrage is completely safe and there is no threat from flood situation to the structure of barrage. Furthermore, canal installations are being monitored continuously in flood-hit areas. The spokesman further said that additional spurs have also been constructed for protection of structure of Taunsa Barrage. Similarly, Provincial Minister for Irrigation and Secretary Irrigation are monitoring the flood situation.
The Punjab government has evacuated and shifted 188,311 persons to safe places through 253 boats where three time best meal and other eatable items are being provided regularly.
SYNOPTIC SITUATION: Seasonal low lies over north Balochistan with its trough extending south-eastwards. Weak monsoon currents are penetrating into central and upper parts of the country. A shallow westerly wave is also affecting upper parts of the country and likely to move eastwards during next 24 hours.
WEATHER FORECAST FOR TODAY: Mainly hot and humid weather is expected in most parts of the country. However, rain-thundershower is expected at isolated places in Malakand, Hazara, Peshawar, Mardan, Mirpurkhas, Zhob, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Lahore division, Islamabad, upper Fata, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
