The Karachi Port handled 128,834 tonnes of cargo comprising 102,475 tonnes of import cargo and 26,359 tonnes of export cargo including 3,370 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Thursday. The total import cargo of 102,475 tonnes comprised of 22,263 tonnes of containerised cargo; 11,166 tonnes of general cargo; 19,789 tonnes of bulk cargo: 6,000 tonnes of coke; 5,741 tonnes of DAP; 2,488 tonnes of palm kernel; 5,560 tonnes of SB meal and 49,257 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 26,359 tonnes comprised of 21,304 tonnes of containerised cargo; 55 tonnes of general cargo; 3,000 tonnes of talcum powder and 2,000 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 3,370 containers comprising of 1,350 containers import and 2,020 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday.
The break-up of imported containers shows 936 of 20's and 207 of 40's loaded while nil of 20's and nil of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 651 of 20's and 270 of 40's loaded containers while 547 of 20's and 141 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
There were four ships namely Beijing Bridge, Corvette, Pona and Kota Kamil carrying containers respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There were two vessels viz. Kota Kamil and Cosco Wellington carrying containers respectively currently at the berths. There were six ships namely Captain Costas, Hyundai Freedom, Analipsi Lady, Dynasty Xia, Silver Star and Margaret SW carrying containers, oil tanker, meal, steel and general cargo sailed out to sea on Thursday, while three ships namely Wieland, Nord Setouchi and Paula carrying containers, coal and general cargo respectively are expected to sail on Friday. There was one vessel viz. Wan Hai-516 carrying containers due to arrive on Thursday, while four vessels viz. Bahamas, Sudair, Jin Xiang and ER Nizre carrying containers, steel and coal respectively are due to arrive on Friday.
The total export cargo of 21,189 tonnes includes 21,189 tonnes of containerised cargo. There were three ships namely CV CGM CMA Rabealas, CV Sealand Michigan and MT AD Fine Sun with containers and edible oil sailed out to sea on Thursday morning, while two ships namely MV Rising Falcon and MT Bull Sulawesi carrying slags bulk and furnace oil expected to sail on the same day afternoon.
A total number of seven vessels viz. CV CGM CMA Rabealas, CV Sealand Michigan, CV Sealand New York, MV Rising Falcon, MT Bull Sulawesi, MT Ex Quisite and MT AD Fine Sun currently occupied berths to load/offload containers, slag bulk, furnace oil, LNG and edible oil respectively during the last 24 hours. As many as six ships carrying containers, chemical, diesel oil and edible oil at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim on Thursday.
There were three vessels carrying containers took berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal on Wednesday. There are four ships namely CV Tomy Ritcher, CV MSC Slivana, MV Boraq and MT Argontiris carrying containers, chemical and edible oil due to arrive on Thursday.
