Un-tuned, noise making 26000 motorcycle rickshaws have become a permanent traffic problem and demanded action under the clauses of terrorism on intentional road blockage in the city swarming with population of 4 Million individuals, said Nadeem Allahwala Acting President Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI).
He was talking to Anjum Kamal DSP headquarter (Traffic) during his visit to FCCI here today. He said that organised nations fully follow the traffic rules "We also play our positive role but only on Motorways. Immediately after leaving Motorway, we also start violating traffic rules. He underlined the need for the sensitisation, awareness and education of masses with a focus on the awareness of students. He said that traffic laws should be made a compulsory part of our curricula from school to college level. This will help the students to inculcate the habits of following traffic rules, he said and added that competitions among students on traffic rules and signs with prizes could also be arranged as a motivational programs. Inaam Afzal Khan Vice President FCCI proposed a one-window facility for the issuance of driving licenses and said that FCCI was ready to support FCCI in this initiative.
DSP Anjum Kamal said that awareness sessions could be arranged with regular periodicity for the convenience of the FCCI members. These programs could be arranged in FCCI auditorium where maximum numbers of participants could attend it. He told that approximately 10,000 people dies in road related accidents every year in Pakistan and out of these 93% dies because of human error.
He told that a proposal was under consideration to declare 4 main city roads as model for enforcement of traffic rules. There will be a dedicated lane for two wheeler, he said and added that we will first educate the road users for 15 days and after this period zero tolerance policy will be adopted to make roads safe heavens.
He also assured to provide the facility of the renewal of international driving licenses at FCCI-E Police Station and assured to allocate pre-determined time to conduct driving tests of the FCCI members. On the demand of acting president the DSP also assured to fix cat eyes in front of East canal road in front of FCCI complex to avoid possible traffic accidents.
