All-Pakistan Motorcycle Spare Parts Importers and Dealers Association's (APMSPIDA) chairman Faisal Khalil has demanded of the government to reduce duty on the import of motorcycles' spare parts. Taking to newsmen at an Eid Milan party of the association, he also urged the government to withdraw additional import duty on the spare parts of motorcycles.
He hoped that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and the Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar keeping in view that motorcycles are the cheap source of conveyance for the people belonging to middle and lower income groups will either exempt motorcycles parts from import duty or levy a minimum possible tax.
Khalil was of the view that high duty on the import of motorcycle's spare parts was encouraging smuggling of spare parts and, on the other, depriving government of huge revenue under the head of import duty. "In fact, high rate of taxes is giving boost to smuggling in the country," he added. He was of the view that the government's act of reducing duty on the import of motorcycles' spare parts will, on the one hand, curb smuggling and, on the other, encourage import of motorcycles parts through legal channels.
