Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Wednesday forecast scattered rains with thundershowers over upper parts of the country from Friday to Monday. Spokesman for the PMD informed that monsoon currents will start to penetrate over upper parts of the country from Thursday and a westerly wave is also likely to grip the same areas on Friday evening.
Under the influence of these meteorological conditions, scattered rain/thundershowers with isolated heavy falls are expected in KP, upper Punjab, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir during Friday to Monday. Due to interaction of monsoon currents and westerly wave, isolated areas of Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Hazara, Peshawar, Mardan Divisions and the catchment areas of major rivers may receive heavy at times very heavy falls during Friday night to Sunday. The prevailing high temperatures in northern areas with combination of rainfall may trigger GLOF/ flash flood events in Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral resulting high flows in the local rivers and streams of northern areas.
