The Karachi Port handled 121,703 tonnes of cargo comprising 97,872 tonnes of import cargo and 23,831 tonnes of export cargo including 4,793 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Thursday.
The total import cargo of 97,872 tonnes comprised of 34,141 tonnes of containerised cargo; 16,796 tonnes of general cargo; 30,239 tonnes of bulk cargo: 23,000 tonnes of coal; 7,239 tonnes of SB meal and 16,696 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 23,831 tonnes comprised of 21,832 tonnes of containerised cargo; 100 tonnes of general cargo; 1,399 tonnes of cement and 500 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
As many as 4,793 containers comprising of 2,513 containers import and 2,280 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday.
The break-up of imported containers shows 907 of 20's and 778 of 40's loaded while nil of 20's and 25 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 616 of 20's and 267 40's loaded containers while 444 of 20's and 343 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
There were five ships namely PAC Aries, MT Quetta, Chahat, Bunga Lavender and Mandarin Ocean carrying containers, oil tankers and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.
There were five vessels viz. Irenes Wisdom, Bunga Lavender, Success Daila XLII, NEO and Bofors carrying containers, oil tankers, fertiliser and tug respectively currently at the berths.
There were two ships namely KMTC Mumbai and Lady Venus carrying containers and oil tanker respectively sailed out to sea on Thursday, while two ships namely Irenes Wisdom and Ayseaz S carrying containers and meal respectively are expected to sail on Friday.
There were six vessels viz. Stadt Marburg, Portofino, Al Farahidi, DL Rose, Saadetc and COS Bonny carrying containers, oil tanker, SB meal and rock phosphate respectively due to arrive on Thursday.
