Terming his relations with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif "excellent", former president and co-Chairman of PPP Asif Ali Zardari has said the present government and assemblies must complete their mandated tenure. In an interview with a private TV channel in London, the former President said his statement was not against the military establishment but what he said was to save democracy in line with his own thinking.
He said whether in the government or in opposition, they have never challenged the military. He said the PPP and the army have always worked hand in hand for the betterment of the country and supported every operation of the army. He said they have no problem in Sindh Operation as they supported the government at every front in the fight against terrorism. He said the Karachi operation was supported by all, including the MQM and PPP, and the MQM has also signed the establishment of military courts.
He said he had come to London for a medical check-up and would return home. He said youth of Bilawal and his (Zardari's) experience will take the country forward. The former president said it is better for the country that resignations of MQM parliamentarians are not accepted. He hoped that Maulana Fazlur Rehman would succeed in his role for mediation. He said politics should not suffer and he has asked opposition leader Khurshid Shah to play a role.
He said a 'new Pakistan' is on the world map and it is "only and only due to PPP." Without naming, Zardari said some people "who do not know the ABC of politics" were acting like Madonna and political actors on TV channels. He said PPP has an important role in bringing peace in Karachi and Sindh. Zardari said that Zulfikar Ali Bhutto made Pakistan a nuclear power while the subsequent PPP governments gave missile programme to the country. He said they always worked for the country by setting aside differences and even suffered. He said it was because of the reconciliation policy of the PPP that their government completed five years.
