This is apropos to press reports in yesterday's dailies regarding a briefing given by Khalid Rahman, MD, SSGC, to the National Assembly Standing Committee for Petroleum and Natural Resources. "At the outset, SSGC would like to state that the contents of MD's briefing to the Committee were not fully covered by the media.
"MD, SSGC apprised the Committee members that enquiries are being conducted on the three senior officers of SSGC, apprehended by the law enforcement agencies and stressed that while the matter is under investigation, it would not be appropriate to dilate on it since they are innocent till proven guilty. The MD also added that these senior officials are thorough professionals, who have a long track record of always working in the best interest of the Company.
"He informed the Committee that DMD/COO Shoaib Warsi has been associated with SSGC for the last 37 years and has a credible track record in various capacities while Mohammad Amin Rajput, CFO joined the Company about three years ago in the capacity of its Chief Internal Auditor and only took charge of the office of CFO some three months back. Kamran Nagi, GM (P&C), the MD said, joined SSGC around three years ago, after having served Shell Pakistan for a long time.
"Rahman admitted that since he recently took over as SSGC's MD, he is still not aware about a number of facets about the company but as far as the three apprehended senior officers are concerned, he has not received any adverse report about any of them.
"The MD informed the committee members that the recent developments have instilled a lot of fear in the minds of the company's officers. It is clarified that while some of the senior officers had gone underground, they have reported back to their duties and SSGC continues to function normally with a limited senior management team. "It must be noted that the company is managed by an able team of executives and engineers who have not let current diversions affect its operations and strategic projects in any way. For instance, SSGC played a positive role in lessening the impact of fuel shortage following Monday's strike by the oil transporters, by relaxing CNG closure timings so that the commuters do not face prolonged inconvenience. "It is once again appealed to the media that considering the sensitivity of the issue, complete facts with information duly verified is presented before making any news public, since this has a direct impact on staff morale and the anxiety of their family members," the press release concluded.
