The US ambassador to Pakistan Richard Olson Wednesday called on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan at his Bani Gala residence and discussed the peace talks between Afghan government and Taliban with him. According to media office of the PTI, the ongoing negotiation with the Taliban was also discussed in the meeting which lasted for an hour at Bani Gala.
On July 7, the US had participated in the first-ever direct talks between Afghan government and the Taliban in Murree which was facilitated by Pakistan. A Chinese delegation led by its ambassador to Pakistan also attended the meeting. However, the second round of the dialogue which was scheduled for July 31, 2015 could not take place, as the meeting was called off following the news of Mullah Omar's death went public. The PTI media office further said that the political scenario and the security situation in Afghanistan also came under discussion during the meeting. The American Ambassador updated Imran Khan on the details of the recent visit of Susan Rice, US National Security Adviser to Pakistan.
