Baleeghur Rehman, State Minister for Interior and Narcotics Control, on Wednesday categorically said that there are no solid proof of Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) or Daesh existence in Pakistan. Talking to journalists after addressing a seminar titled, Engaging Pakistani Youth in Anti-Narcotics Efforts: Building Generations and Societies, jointly organised by Pakistan US Alumni Network (PUAN) and the Ministry of Interior and Narcotics Control held at National Library auditorium, he said there was no room for terrorists in the country.
About seminary reforms, he said that Ittehad-i-Tanzeemat-i-Madaris Pakistan (ITMP) has agreed with the proposed seminary reforms under the National Action Plan (NAP). However, a meeting between the government and the representatives of five boards of seminaries will be held in the next few days to give final shape to the proposed seminary reforms.
Earlier, he said that as a result of operation Zarb-e-Azb and Karachi operation, law and order has scientifically improved within cities as well as at borders. The improvement of law and order situation at borders, he added, has allowed us to enforce better regulation mandatory for curbing the smuggling of drugs into Pakistan.
Rehman said that the uncontrolled poppy cultivation in neighbouring Afghanistan is a major problem for Pakistan. "Pakistan has introduced integrated boarder management system to control the illegal trade," he said. He said that Pakistan has been declared poppy free country by United Nation Office on Drug Crime (UNODC). He said that despite huge resources, some of the European countries are producing precursor chemicals which are used in ecstasy drugs.
He called upon the nation to join hands with the government in its efforts to curb the menace of drugs. "It's not only the government or the agencies rather we all should join hands to eradicate the menace of drug," he added. Rehaman said that the government has decided to include anti-drugs courses in the curriculum. The acting deputy chief of Mission Jeffrey Sexton of US embassy urged the students to serve their communities as volunteers in whatever capacity they can.
