Rangers on Wednesday released a leader of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Qamar Mansoor, after keeping him under their custody for 45 days. According to the paramilitary force, he has been released on humanitarian ground. Shortly after his release, MQM's Coordination Committee announced that he (Mansoor) had been relieved of all his party responsibilities.
It may be recalled that he was picked up by Rangers along with his party colleague, Kaiful Wara, from Muttahida's headquarters `Nine Zero' on the charges of facilitating Altaf Hussain's `hate' speech against the state institutions on July 17. However, Kaiful Wara was released within a few hours of his detention, whereas the paramilitary force had obtained a 90-day remand of Qamar Mansoor from an antiterrorism court (ATC).
Meanwhile, MQM Coordination Committee in a statement issued on Wednesday announced: "Qamar Mansoor has been relieved of all his organizational responsibilities in view of his mental and physical condition." A decision to this effect was taken by a joint meeting of the party's Coordination Committee of London and Pakistan, the statement added.
The Coordination Committee made the decision of relieving Qamar Mansoor of his organizational responsibilities after he expressed some reservations at the committee's meeting. The committee has also asked MQM workers not to make any contact with him for any organizational issue. The Coordination Committee has, however, announced that Qamar Mansoor and his family could come to Nine Zero at any time in connection with their problems and difficulties so that such issues could be attended to on priority.
