The Pakistan Peoples' Party in the Punjab has expressed solidarity with protesting traders and demanded that the withholding tax be dropped. Party President Manzoor Wattoo, who was critical of the tax, claimed on Wednesday that the lingering protests were denting the economy, adding that the government should desist from "pushing the traders against the wall". He also criticised the government for its generous attitude towards mighty industrialists and capitalists and hostile to small traders.
