Transport remained largely smooth on roads while routine business activities continued in Karachi on Muttahida Qaumi Movement's 'mourning day' on Saturday that it had announced against what it said the extra-judicial killings of its workers by Rangers. Yesterday, while talking to media senior leader of MQM Farooq Sattar had asked Karachiites to close their businesses and markets to observe mourning day over what he said extra-judicial killings of three of its workers near Northern Bypass in Karachi.
After his press conference, Director General of Rangers in Karachi warned against the forced shutdown of businesses and any other activities in Sindh, particularly in Karachi. DG Rangers said, "We cannot allow anyone to bring life in the metropolis to a paralysing halt. And today everything is as normal as everyday in Karachi," he said. The Rangers on Saturday arrested eight miscreants for forcing traders to shut down markets in different areas of the metropolitan city.
According to a statement issued by Rangers spokesman, the arrested miscreants are affiliated with Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM). The Rangers have arrested eight MQM workers in different areas including Liaquatabad Number 4, Karimabad and Orangi Sector 5. The statement said the accused would be produced before an anti-terrorism court (ATC). Business centres such as Saddar, Electronics Market, Bolton Market and Empress Market remained open. Traffic flow was reported normal. Public transport and private vehicles were moving without interruptions on roads. Compressed natural gas (CNG) stations also remained open in the early hours after an outage of at least 24 hours.
