Cement plant sector: 'Punjab government encouraging firms to invest under PPP'
"Punjab government is encouraging and supporting different national and international companies interested to invest in cement plant sector in the province under public-private partnership through Mines & Minerals department. A project to launch a new cement plant near Kalar Kahar worth Rs 12 billion in private sector is also under consideration." This was stated by Secretary Mines & Minerals, Dr Arshad Mahmood in a meeting with the delegation of FACTO Cement led by CEO Facto Muhammad Yasin.
Additional Secretary Mines & Minerals Raja Khuram Shahzad, Manager Mines Nadeem Ahmad, GM Facto Cement Saboor Jawad and other concerned officers of the department were also present on this occasion. CEO Facto told secretary Mines & Minerals that company is already operating a cement plant at Islamabad successfully and now they intent to invest Rs 12 billion in Punjab. Dr Arshad Mahmood told the delegation that Chief Minister Punjab has taken concrete measures to reorganise Mines & Minerals Department with the view to promote latest technology, best marketing of minerals, research work and investment in this sector.
He said that new techniques in mining sector to revamp the department are also under process. Dr Arshad Mahmood informed the delegation that mapping of new minerals in southern Punjab will be initiated soon as well as Punjab Energy Holding Company has also been set up as Mines & Minerals department is playing pivotal role in economic development and industrialisation.
