Major terrorist plan foiled: huge quantity of explosives recovered; 45 suspects held
The law-enforcement agencies on Saturday foiled a major terrorist plan after recovering 190kgs of explosives and a huge cache of weapons from a locality falling under the jurisdiction of Tarnol police station. According to a police officer, elite force and Rangers on a tipoff conducted a raid at a house and recovered a large quantity of explosive material, detonators and 45 different weapons, besides arresting 59 suspects.
The arrested people have been shifted to a nearby police station for further investigation, he added. He said that weapons recovered during the raid include eight sub-machineguns (SMGs), one 222, two M16s, a 7mm, three repeaters, at least 19, 30-bore pistols, three 9mm, seven 12-bore rifles, five pump-action guns and thousands of rounds of ammunition, chemicals, six detonators and 1,700m wire, 1,250 liquor bottles and 1,886 bullets of various weapons.
The official said that police and Rangers personnel have been conducting operation against criminal as a part of National Action Plan. "Search operations have been initiated and the police are conducting raids in slum areas, inns, hotels and restaurants and the Afghan localities," he added. Earlier, the police and Rangers conducted search operations in the limits of Bara Kahu police station and arrested 121 suspects. Rangers and police have conducted a door-to-door search operation in the jurisdiction of Bara Kahu police station and recovered huge cache of weapons including Kalashnikovs, pistols, two 7mm guns and hundreds of rounds, he added.
Meanwhile, senior police officials have directed all sub-divisional police officers and station house officers to ensure foolproof security in the city by increasing patrolling in the limits falling under their respective jurisdiction. Moreover, police have also been directed to conduct checking and search of workshops, bus stands and hotels on regular basis.
