The nation celebrated the September 6 across the country, remembering that it was 50 years ago that India attacked Pakistan. Whilst Pakistan Army advanced in the Akhnur sector of Jammu and Kashmir, Indians opened different fronts to relieve pressure. A Business Recorder editorial carried by the newspaper on the Defence Day pointed out that "As it turned out, they had planned to capture Lahore and celebrate victory at Lahore's Gymkhana, only to face a humiliating reversal. The soldiers and civilians stood as one in confronting the invaders."
The spirit of 1965 war is a golden chapter in the chequered history of the country. That the entire nation was on the same page during that war was a fact that manifested itself in a befitting response to India's aggression. No doubt, the operation Zarb-e-Azb, too, has led to brought the entire nation on the same page. One can therefore pin high hopes on its results. It has already made substantial gains, almost overcoming the challenge of terrorism and extremism in the country.
