The Rangers and city police on Friday conducted joint search operation in the outskirts of the federal capital and nabbed some 64 suspects, recovering huge cache of weapons from them. A police official said that police teams conducted raids at Khokhar house, Mazher house, Majha house, Malik Bari house and Deras of other important personalities. The raiding teams arrested 14 Afghan nationals from Khokhar house of Taji Khohar, who is brother of Nawaz Khokhar. Nawaz Khokhar served as deputy speaker of the National Assembly from 1990 to 1993.
He said that following the directives of Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan the ICT police devised a special plan regarding search operation in various parts of the city. The search operations were conducted in areas of Iqbal Town, Sohan, Koral and Humak located on either sides of Islamabad Expressway. During the joint operations, the police arrested 64 suspects including 14 Afghan nationals, he said. He said that the police and Rangers searched houses, workshops, markets, under construction buildings as well as residential areas.
Lady commandos and women police also participated in the operations while sniffer dogs were also used in some areas. The police and Rangers teams recovered 67 guns, more than 3000 bullets of various types of weapons and foreign made liquor, he added.
According to police spokesman, Superintendent of Police (SP) (rural zone) Dr Syed Mustafa Tanveer said that cards of nabbed Afghan suspects would be verified and their mobile phones record would be obtained. He said that the Islamabad police have set up a cell with latest technology to trace the links of such suspects with criminal elements, dacoits or car lifters. Such search operations would continue in coming days and sensitive areas would be completely combed, he added.
