Terror attack condemned: government determined to restore peace in country: Ahsan Iqbal
Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal condemned Friday's terror attack on the air force base in Badaber in Peshawar, saying it shows the war on terror has hardly ended. Ahsan Iqbal said on Saturday, "We are moving forward in the mission against terrorism and the government's commitment to continuing the fight against terrorism till the total success."
Talking to the media after prize distribution ceremony of Crescent Model School here on Saturday, the minister said, "We are moving forward in the war on terrorism and we are determined to restore peace in the country." He also claimed that the terrorists were getting training from India. "The strategy against terrorism is effective but a political instability will help these extremists," he added.
Taliban militants who claimed responsibility killed 29 people in the attack on the base, which is just 10 kilometres (six miles) south of Peshawar. The gunmen, dressed in police uniforms, stormed the base on Friday morning, killing 16 of the victims during morning prayers at a mosque inside the compound. To a question on the Nandipur Power project, he said the PML-N government inherited sick economy and energy projects which the previous government had started in 2007.
The Nandipur project remained stucked in official files for a long period of time, adding that the project was practicable but the PML-N government did not buried it, otherwise, contracting firms could have approached arbitrator courts and affected foreign investment in the country. Ahsan Iqbal said the government started the Nandipur power project in the larger interest of the country. "The chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has objections to our projects, but instead he should introduce better ones in the province governed by his party. Imran Khan has an opportunity to start development works in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, instead of sheer allegations," he said. "Imran is following a wrong path, instead of playing a constructive role."
