Security agencies in federal capital have been put on high alert to head off any untoward incident prior to or on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha to be held on September 25. Police sources said that following Pakistan Air Base (PAF) camp Badaber attack, the Ministry of Interior has issued alert to the law enforcement agencies to further tighten security in the city, as well as conduct strict checking and ensure effective joint patrolling of the police and Rangers to avert any possible terror attack.
They said that the police and Rangers have also combed the area in and around Margalla Hills and conducted search operations in the outskirts of the city as well as hotels, restaurants and Afghan slum dwellings and arrested many suspects during the last few days. The search operations would continue over the next few days along with complete combing of sensitive areas around Islamabad, they further said.
They said that sub-divisional police officers (SDPOs) and station house officers (SHOs) have been strictly directed to maintain high vigilance in their respective limits. Sources said that the security of Presidency, Prime Minister House, Supreme Court, Parliament House, Parliament lodges, Pak-Secretariat, foreign embassies, big markets and Benazir Bhutto International Airport has been tightened.
They said that the police officials in civil uniform have also been assigned the task of keeping vigilance against suspicious elements. The high-ups of capital police have issued special directions to all senior police officials to conduct checking by themselves at all police pickets in their areas and make the security system more effective. They also issued directives for effective co-ordination among all wings of Islamabad police including operational police, CID department, security division and special branch. Special search of the forests and green belts of the city has also been ordered, they said. They said that security has been enhanced on entry and exit points of the federal capital and process of checking has been made more effective to rein in terrorism.
