The Supreme Court of Pakistan has ordered the authorities concerned to computerise the record of Sindh police officers and personnel involved in crime besides compiling the record of investigation funds.
A two-member bench, comprising Justice Amir Hani Muslim and Justice Gulzar Ahmed, was hearing the case pertaining to involvement of police personnel in crimes at Karachi SC Registry on Tuesday.
The court, on the advice of Advocate General Sindh, Fateh Malik, directed a three-member committee comprising Additional IG AD Khawaja, DIG Sultan Khawaja and DIG Sanaullah Abbasi to complete the task in six months and present the report besides submitting progress report on a monthly basis.
The apex court also authorised the committee to compile the character and record of SSP and DIG-level officers. It also directed the members to computerise and manually collect the service record and character role of all the employees of police department.
The committee will also review distribution of police investigation funds and its procedure and recommend appropriate method to the court.
The bench also ordered that all three members of the committee would be neither transferred nor removed from the post till the tasked was performed and the home secretary would provide all essential funds required by it.
On Monday, Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ghulam Hyder Jamali submitted a report in the Supreme Court stating that 3,400 police officials were involved in heinous crimes like extortion, fake encounters, land grabbing, etc.
