Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has set up a 20-bed Congo virus treatment ward at its Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH). A press release of KMC issued on Wednesday said that the move to set up an exclusive ward for treating Congo virus patients has been necessitated in the wake of presence of millions of sacrificial animals in the city and as such one cannot rule the possibility of people getting infected with the disease.
"Paramedical staff and nurses, deputed in the ward, are trained and they will create awareness among people about the Congo virus disease," the press release said, adding that the ward will function round-the-clock and its operation would be monitored by Metropolitan Commissioner Samiuddin Siddiqui. Meanwhile, Administrator Karachi Sajjad Hussain has constituted a seven-member team for carrying out inspection of all the sacrificial markets set up in the metropolis. The team would be headed by KMC's director (Health) Dr Salma Kausar and its members include senior doctors.
