Senior leader of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Dr Farooq Sattar said here that his party had to stop its operation of collecting hides of sacrificial animals on the second day of Eid-ul-Azha due to what he called `excessive use of force against his party by the authorities'.
Speaking at a press conference on Saturday, the MQM leader said that his party's charity wing - Khidmat-e-Khalq Foundation (KKF) - was not only stopped from collecting hides of sacrificial animals, but around 60,000 hides collected by the KKF were also snatched.
He claimed that over 100 vehicles loaded with hides of sacrificial animals were seized despite the fact drivers of all those vehicles were in possession of letters/permits issued with the approval of Commissioner Karachi. Not only this, but even the contractors' trucks were detained in different police stations of the metropolis, he added.
He also alleged that volunteers of KKF were not only stopped from collecting hides of sacrificial animals but they (volunteers) as well as donors were threatened of dire consequences by the authorities.
Meanwhile, the Sindh Rangers and other law-enforcement agencies claimed to have arrested dozens of people on the charges of snatching hides of sacrificial animals from different areas of the city in the last couple of days.
The Sindh government had announced a strict code of conduct for the collection of sacrificial animals' hides.
