The health advisor to the chief minister has claimed that his government is taking solid steps to strengthen and develop the nursing sector and that the ratio of nurses and beds in public hospitals will be improved and over 1,000 new vacancies of nurses will be created.
Punjab Advisor on Health Khawaja Salman Rafique informed this while presiding over a meeting to review the proposals prepared by the Chief Minister Health Roadmap team for development of nursing sector at Civil Secretariat here on Monday. Director General Doctor Zahid Pervez, Nursing Acting Director General Nusrat Saeeda, Additional Secretary (Tech) Dr Salman Shahid, Development Deputy Superintendent Abdul Haq Bhatti, the Roadmap Programme expert also present in the meeting.
Administration Deputy Secretary Raja Mansoor told the audience that 1450 nurses were inducted in January 2015 whereas more than 1,200 nurses were coming through PPSC in a couple of weeks. The meeting reviewed in detail a presentation prepared by a Roadmap Programme team about the development of the nursing sector, creation of new posts of nurses according to the nurse and bed ratio strength in govt hospitals, improvement of qualification of nurses, professional training program and up-gradation of nursing schools to the level of nursing colleges.
Advisor Rafique said in his speech, "Nurses play an extremely important role in healthcare delivery system and without their active participation patient care is impossible. Nursing schools will be upgraded as nursing colleges. Vacant posts of nurses will be filled besides creating 1,000 posts of nurses to overcome the shortage of nurses in hospitals. A comprehensive plan is being prepared with the collaboration with the Chief Minister Health Roadmap team keeping in view all aspects of the healthcare requirement. In this connection a presentation will be given to Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and after his approval the package will be implemented."
