Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak has directed the departments concerned and district administrations to ensure the completion of ongoing anti-encroachment drive within six months. He also ordered the construction of service roads on both sides of Peshawar Ring Road and asked the Local Government of Peshawar to identify state lands encroached on the road.
Expressing concerns over the reports of corrupt practices in Local Government department, the chief minister asked the high authorities to take strict action to check such practices and also remove those officers who have been posted at the same office or station for long. He was presiding over a meeting regarding the affairs of the WSSP (Water and Sanitation Services of Peshawar) at CM Secretariat on Monday.
Provincial Minister for Information, Mushtaq Ahmed Ghani, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister, Mian Khaleeq-ur-Rahman, Executive Director WSSP, Khalid Masood, Secretary Local Government, Chief Executive WSSP, District Nazim and Deputy Commissioner of Peshawar and other officers attended the meeting. The meeting discussed at length the issues being faced by the WSSP in its operations and the Chief Minister directed all works departments and local governments to devise a fool proof mechanism to ensure full co-ordination and co-operation for executing development schemes and maintenance operations without damaging any civic facility or infrastructure.
Stressing the need for strict implementation of the building laws, he asked the LG department to check development of unplanned and unauthorised housing colonies and said that certain criteria must be fixed for providing the basic civic amenities to such areas. Discussing the progress on beautification project of the provincial capital city, he also issued directives to remove impediments and accelerate the pace of work on the scheme.
Nominating the Town Nazims as the WSSP Focal Persons for their respective town councils, the chief minister asked the WSSP to get the district and Town Nazims on the board of directors of the WSSP and assign the responsibility of sanitation and cleanliness to newly elected Tehsil, town and village councils, adding that under the LG Rules of Business it has been made essential for all such local bodies to spend at least 30 percent of their budget on cleanliness and solid waste management.
Expressing dissatisfaction over civic facilities of the interior city of Peshawar, Khattak called for true revival of the old Peshawar city and directed for establishing a separate and independent authority for the revival of all old cities of the province.
Seeking progress reports on renovation of General Bus Stand, Peshawar, beautification of Nowshera, further widening of the main University Road and construction of Hayatabad Flyover, the chief minister directed the authorities concerned to engage national level good reputed companies for early completion of these projects. He also directed to select suitable sites for setting up planned and organised cart markets for casual vendors and provide the license holders carts of a unified design which could add to the beauty of such markets.
