The CPI inflation was recorded at 1.32 per cent in September 2015 over the same month a year ago, according to Pakistan Bureau of Statistics. The CPI inflation data released by the PBS on Thursday noted that inflation rate in September 2015 over previous month of August 2015 was negative by -0.10%. The CPI inflation for July-September 2015-16 over July-September 2014-15 was recorded at 1.66 per cent.
Pakistan Bureau of Statistics collects the retail and wholesale prices and computes the Consumer Price Index (CPI), Wholesale Price Index (WPI) on monthly basis and Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) on weekly basis. In September, 2015 the CPI decreased by 0.10% while WPI decreased by 0.39% and SPI increased by 0.45% respectively. An increase of 0.36 was noted in the price of non-perishable food items in September 2015 over same month of previous year, 16.27 per cent alcoholic beverages & tobacco, 4.60 per cent in clothing & footwear, 5.47 per cent in housing water, electricity gas & other fuels, 3.70 per cent in furnishing & household equipment maintenance and 2.89 per cent in health. An increase of 0.43 per cent was noted in the price of communication, 2.16 per cent recreation & culture, 9.01 per cent in education, 3.84 per cent in restaurant & hotel 2.39 per cent in miscellaneous goods & services
However, the price of food & non-alcoholic beverages declined negative 1.06%, perishable food items negative by 8.23%, transport negative by 14.38%. Top few commodities which registered an increase in the price in September 2015 over September 2014 among food group were pulse gram (48.98%), besan (40.50%), tea (25.01%), onions (20.61%), pulse mash (19.66%), cigarettes (16.18%) and gram whole (15.76%) and non food items were woollen readymade garments (10.18%) and sewing needle & dry cell (10.05%).
The price of potatoes registered a decrease of (60.03%) during the period under review, tomatoes (22.99%), cooking oil (14.85%), rice (12.94%), chicken (12.07%), vegetable ghee (11.82%) and eggs (11.63%) and kerosene oil (25.48%), motor fuel (22.27%) and transport services (14.23%). During the month of September, 2015 over September, 2014, the trimmed core inflation has been observed as 2.8% while it was 7.1 during September, 2014 over September, 2013. During the month of September, 2015 over September, 2014, the non-food & non-energy core inflation has been observed as 3.4% while it was 8.1% during September, 2014 over September, 2013.
