Pakistan People's Party (PPP) has submitted an adjournment motion in the National Assembly Secretariat to discuss the performance of Ministry of Water and Power in the light of the annual report of the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra). The motion was submitted by Naveed Qamar, Dr Nafisa Shah, Shazia Mari, Beelum Husnain and Imran Zafar Laghari.
According to the text of the motion, "We the undersigned request that the proceedings of the house be adjourned to discuss the abysmal performance of Ministry of Water & Power as revealed in the annual report of Nepra. As per report power companies failed not only to meet generation, transmission and distribution standards but also sent wrong bills to consumers. Report clearly states that the orchestrated electricity shortfalls and load shedding were done intentionally as plants were kept closed and unlicensed plants were kept in operation. Line losses were also far beyond the allowed limit thus consumers made to pay billions of rupees for the inefficiency of the ministry. This is very serious matter concerning public and needs immediate attention of the house."
