Keeping in view the untiring efforts in enhancing horticultural exports, members of Pakistan Fruits and Vegetable Exporters, Importers and Merchant Association (PFVA) have unanimously elected Waheed Ahmed as new chairman of PFVA for 2015-2016. In addition, Chaudhry Shuaib Ahmed has been elected Senior Vice Chairman and Saeed Khan as Vice Chairman PFVA and Aslam Pakhali, Muhammad Zahid Awan, Masood Ahmed Malik, Sajjad Hussain, Rizwan Makhddom, Sarfaraz Hussain Ranjha, Muhammad Ismail, Zulfiqar Ali, Ansar Iqbal, Muhammad Hanif, Muhammad Sadiq and Khurram Khan lodhi have been elected members of Executive Committee of the association.
Addressing the annual general meeting of the association held in Karachi on Thursday, newly elected Chairman Waheed Ahmed said that it was the collective efforts of the members which enlisted PFVA in the leading trade organizations of the country. Sharing his future plan, Waheed said that the research and development (R&D) will be given due focus as it is imperative to search new markets and hold on the existing lucrative markets amidst the increasing demand of qualitative fruits and vegetables world-wide. He said that a close co-ordination with concerned authorities of the government is also needed to resolve issues related to supply chain system.
He claimed that the country may export fruit and vegetable worth one billion dollars in this financial year provided that government extends the promised support and facilities to this sector. Waheed said that exporters will also co-ordinate with the government to create a favourable environment for foreign investment in the horticulture sector introducing modern technological methods of cultivation in the country. He also lauded the efforts of President Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) Mian Muhammad Idrees and Chief Executive Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) S M Munir for promotion of the neglected sectors.
During the meeting, members of the association appreciated Waheed Ahmed's role for promotion of horticulture sector during the past couple of years and assured their full support to him. They also appreciated Waheed for highlighting issues of this sector at higher forum especially the presentations made to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for Trade Policy Framework in Islamabad. The meeting, later also reviewed progress and activities of the association during last one year and decided to encourage firms for better performance through achievement awards.
