Kashmir Council EU Chairman Ali Raza Syed hailed Pakistan's stance on issue of Kashmir at United Nations General Assembly specially demilitarisation of Kashmir region. In a statement while appreciating the position taken by Pakistan Prime Minister Mohammad Nawaz Sharif on Kashmir at UN, Ali Raza Syed said, "A meaningful proposal was presented by Pakistan at the international body."
Stressing upon a broader struggle for execution of the four-point formula of Nawaz Sharif, Ali Raza Syed said, implementation of the formula would help peace and prosperity in the region particularly it would lead an atmosphere towards peaceful settlement of Kashmir issue. Other three points of the Nawaz Sharif proposal like respect the 2003 understanding for a complete cease-fire on the Line of Control of Kashmir, expansion of UNMOGIP for monitoring the observance of the cease-fire, avoiding use or threat to use force and mutual withdrawal from Siachen are also noteworthy.
Ali Raza Syed said that execution of the formula is more important and Pakistan should speed up its diplomatic efforts for implementation of the formula. "It needs a comprehensive struggle at international level because India has non-serious attitude in the context of peace in the region," he said.
He emphasised that the longstanding Kashmir issue should be resolved according to UN resolutions and wishes of people of Kashmir and the international community should have an effective and meaningful role for the settlement which belongs to the fate of 13 million people of Kashmir. Chairman Kashmir Council EU said, the international community should understand that Kashmiris are struggling for their right of self-determination but Indian authorities pressing their freedom movement by using ruthless means and brutal acts including extra-judicial killings, force disappearance, arrest, rape and etc.
"This is all because New Delhi does not accept basic issue of right to self-determination to the Kashmiri people and denial of the right so far resulted into a large scale human right violation and crimes against the humanity by Indian forces in the occupied land.
He also condemned the several restrictions on Hurriat leaders in occupied Kashmir including house arrest and detention of many of them and holding their travel documents in order to stop their visit abroad. He said that the denial of right to self-determination to the Kashmiri people by India had led to a large scale human rights violation in occupied Kashmir. About UN resolutions on Kashmir, Ali Raza Syed said that the Security Council's resolutions on Kashmir provided the best possible solution of the Kashmir dispute and these resolutions should not be avoided at all.
He called upon international organizations specially the United Nations to play their role in resolving the Kashmir pending at the world's body agenda for many decades. He said if international community can play its role for settlement of the issues like Southern Sudan and Kosovo, why Kashmir issue is still being ignored by the world.
