The death toll of Pakistanis martyred during Mina stampede in the holy city Makkah has reached 60 while 49 injured and around 90 are still gone missing, according to the new list issued by the Ministry of Religious Affairs on Sunday. In a list published on its website, the ministry released the names and details of the 60 Pakistanis confirmed by Saudi authorities, officials and family members to have been martyred and at least 49 Pakistanis injured in the stampede -the worst disaster to strike the annual Hajj pilgrimage in 25 years.
The list of 60 Pakistani martyrs includes 26 pilgrims whose deaths have been officially verified by Saudi authorities, and 34 martyrs whose death were reported by relatives and eyewitnesses. Almost 90 Pakistani nationals are still believed to be missing since the disaster.
The Saudi Health Ministry said on Wednesday while rejecting some reports of the death toll that the death toll for the incident in Mina on September 24 remained at 769 people, with another 934 injured in the incident.
According to a report by a foreign media, hundreds of nationals of Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Indonesia, India and Egypt were also missing after the stampede.
According to media report, Saudi authorities have yet to provide a breakdown of the nationalities of the martyred pilgrims, but several countries have announced the deaths of their citizens. Here is the toll given by foreign officials and media so far: - Iran: 464 dead-Egypt : 124 dead, 70 missing - Indonesia: 91 dead - Nigeria: 64 dead, 244 missing - Mali : 60 dead - India: 51 dead, 63 missing - Niger: 28 dead, 89 missing - Cameroon : 20 dead - Ivory Coast : 14 dead, 77 missing - Algeria : 14 dead, 54 missing - Chad : 11 dead
- Senegal: 10 dead - Morocco: 10 dead, 29 missing - Somalia: 8 dead (media reports)
- Ghana: 5 dead, 21 missing - Liby : 4 dead, 16 missing - Tanzania: 4 dead - Kenya: 3 dead - Tunisia : 2 dead - Burkina Faso: 1 dead - Burundi : 1 dead - Netherlands : 1 dead and Benin: unspecified number of deaths.
