This refers to a ness item "Sartaj rules out cricket with India" carried by the newspaper yesterday. According to it, National Security Advisor Sartaj Aziz has ruled out a potential cricket series against India, saying he saw no chance of a revival of ties between the arch-rivals under "the current situation".
That the present relationship between two neighbours is profoundly tense is a fact that has found its best expression in Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's address to the world community at the United Nations recently. He has presented a four-point initiative which is clearly aimed at resolving Pakistan-India disputes. The people of India in particular are required to appreciate the gravity of the situation as their Narendra Modi-led government appears to be in no mood to take steps aimed at de-escalating tensions. New Delhi is, however, required to take steps aimed at higher economic growth objectives at least any further loss of time.
