With the election campaign in NA-122 in Lahore reaching its peak, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf are set to win support of voters of the constituency. In NA-122, former National Assembly speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq of the governing party and Abdul Aleem Khan of the Insaf are in the run with Barrister Amir of the Pakistan People's Party.
The federal and provincial ministers including Khawaja Saad Rafique, Abid Sher Ali, Marvi Memon, Talal Chaudhry, and Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman are running the campaign of Sardar Ayaz Sadiq; while Insaf chief Imran Khan, Jehangir Khan Tareen and Chaudhry Sarwar are using their energy for Aleem Khan. Both the candidates and their supporters are going door to door to muster support.
The Election Commission of Pakistan is also closely watching the election campaign. Both the candidates, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq of the governing party and Abdul Aleem Khan of the Insaf, submitted their affidavits to the returning officer on the issue of violation of election code of conduct. They claimed that hoarding and banners had been displayed by their supporters. The Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (Fazl) and the Jamiat Ulema-e-Pakistan (Noorani Group) have announced their support to Sardar Ayaz Sadiq in the by-election of NA-122 scheduled to be held on October 11. The assurance was given after both parties' leaders met their governing party counterparts in Lahore.
After the meeting with the Jamiat Ulema-e-Pakistan (Noorani Group) leaders, Khawaja Saad Rafique said Imran had become "comic character" after repeated U-turns. "The governing party believes in rendering selfless services to the masses and would continue its efforts in this regard."
Hamza Shehbaz said politics of allegations and lies would end on October 11 and that the journey of progress and prosperity would continue under the leadership of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. He claimed that the governing party leadership had always observed norms of decency whereas the other party is involved in allegations and mudslinging. The Jamiat Ulema-e-Pakistan (Noorani Group) leader Anas Noorani said his party workers would vote for Sardar Ayaz Sadiq on October 11.
After meeting with the Their Fazl counterparts, Ayaz Sadiq told the media that they had strong reservations over decision of the Election Tribunal but despite that "we opted for re-election". He claimed his opponents were using foul language but "we will uphold norms of decency".
