The Karachi Port handled 177,549 tonnes of cargo comprising 163,060 tonnes of import cargo and 14,489 tonnes of export cargo including 4,765 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Wednesday. The total import cargo of 163,060 tonnes comprised of 32,373 tonnes of containerised cargo; 18,398 tonnes of general cargo; 7,736 tonnes of bulk cargo: 2,232 tonnes of DAP; 1,642 tonnes of SB meal; 3,962 tonnes of urea and 104,553 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 14,489 tonnes comprised of 13,480 tonnes of containerised cargo and 1,009 tonnes of general cargo. As many as 4,765 containers comprising of 2,511 containers import and 2,254 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Wednesday. The break-up of imported containers shows 565 of 20's and 958 of 40's loaded while nil of 20's and 15 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 144 of 20's and 432 of 40's loaded containers while 284 of 20's and 481 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
There were seven ships namely Pona, Corvette, MT Lahore, Jeil Crystal, Sam Lion, Yuan Hang and HR Constitution carrying containers, oil tankers, DAP, steel and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There were no vessels currently at the berths. There was one ships namely Shalamar carrying oil tanker sailed out to sea on Wednesday, while two ships namely Silver Philippha and Shandong Hai Tong carrying oil tanker and steel respectively are expected to sail on Thursday. There were six vessels viz. Northern Power, Duck Hunter, Shiba, Oriental Nadeshiko, Ikan Sembak and Imar carrying containers, oil tanker, coal and steel due to arrive on Wednesday, while six vessels viz. Cosco Kobe, A Idefix, Oriental Diamond, Nave Cassiopeia, Jin Yue and Ocean Princess carrying containers, mogas, oil tanker, steel and general cargo respectively are due to arrive on Thursday.
