The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has directed the field formations to ensure that all withholding tax statements are being filed on "IRIS" on which further processing has to be done by the concerned officer of Withholding Tax Unit through "IRIS. The FBR has issued instructions to the Large Taxpayer Units (LTUs) and Regional Tax Offices (RTOs) on Thursday.
According to Director General WHT Shaukat Mahmood, this is to reiterate that from Jul 2015 onwards, all withholding tax statements are being filed on "IRIS" on which further processing has to be done by the concerned officer of Withholding Tax Unit through iris. For this purpose, jurisdiction of withholding tax units in all LTUs/RTOs needs to be assigned in IRIS.
In order to ensure uniformity in jurisdiction of withholding tax units across the country, jurisdiction of withholding units in LTU/RTO corresponding to the jurisdiction of either audit units or enforcement units, ie, every withholding unit must have jurisdiction that includes one or more audit or enforcement units in a way that the cases of one audit or enforcement unit must all fall in the jurisdiction of only one withholding unit, the DG WHT maintained.
In view thereof, field formations are requested to ensure that the jurisdiction is re-assigned on the above principle and send the latest jurisdiction covering information, ie, Withholding Zone; Withholding Unit; CNIC of officer posted in the Unit; name of the officer posted in the Unit and corresponding Audit/Enforcement Unit, Shaukat Mahmood added.
