Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) on Thursday observed "the National Disasters Awareness Day expressing solidarity with victims of the October 8 earthquake. PDMA organised a program here in Government High School No 1 City, Peshawar. Participants from Rescue 1122, Civil Defence, Students and Teacher attended the special day programme. While talking on the occasion, Dr Azmat Wazir, Director Relief PDMA said, in 2005 earthquake, northern part of the province badly affected. Muzaffarabad was the hardest hit, mainly because the epicentre of earthquake was just 19 kilometres (12 miles) to its north-east.
He said, PDMA, Rescue 1122 and Civil Defence is observing this day in the memory of the martyrs of the devastating quake which left over 74 thousand people dead and million others injured in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
