Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that Punjab government is setting up 1180 megawatt gas based Bhikki power plant in Sheikhupura from its own resources that will supply electricity to the entire country and help eliminate energy crisis.
He said some political parties through media have been making propaganda against China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. Sometime they term CPEC heavy loans and some time false projects but work has been started speedily on the projects under CPEC and those making propaganda have been silenced.
Shahbaz Sharif claimed that 110 billion rupees of the poor nation have been saved in 3600 megawatt gas based power projects which are unprecedented in the history of the country. He expressed the hope that their sincere efforts will bear fruit in removing load shedding.
He expressed these views while addressing the stone laying ceremony of gas based Power Plant at Bhikki Sheikhupura, on Friday. Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, Governor Punjab Rafique Rajwana, Federal and Provincial Ministers, Members National Assembly, intellectuals, columnists, energy experts, officials of companies working on the project and a large number of people were present on the occasion. Shahbaz said Pakistan is facing two big problems of terrorism and energy crisis. Work is being carried out for eliminating terrorism and darkness throughout the country The CM said that the decision which was taken jointly by federal government, Pak army and political leaders for eliminating terrorism has started yielding positive results. Operation Zarb-e-Azb has hit hard the terrorists. Pak army, police, security institutions and people have rendered unprecedented sacrifices in the war against terrorism. He expressed the hope that these sacrifices will bear fruit and the motherland will become haven of peace besides this work is being carried out speedily on energy projects for removing darkness from the country including 1320 megawatt coal based projects in Sahiwal, solar project in Bahawalpur, Port Qasim and Thar.
Shahbaz Sharif said the economic package of billions of dollars by China reflects the confidence in the leadership of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and love with the people of Pakistan by Chinese leadership and government. People of Pakistan can never forget this great favour of historic package of China.
He especially thanked Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif for providing guidance for the project. He thanked Federal Minister for Petroleum Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Federal Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Asif, Federal Minister for Finance Ishaq Dar, Federal Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal and Secretaries of these departments, Punjab Cabinet, Chief Secretary Punjab, Chairman Planning and Development, Additional Chief Secretary Energy, Senior Member Board of Revenue, Secretary Finance, Chairman Board of Quaid-e-Azam Thermal Power Company Arif Saeed, CEO Ahad Cheema CEOs of Federal gas based projects Rashid Langrial, Najam Shah and Presidents of National Bank, Habib Bank and Punjab Bank for extending full co-operation for the project.
Earlier, Chief Executive Quaid-e-Azam Thermal Power Company Ahad Khan Cheema threw light on the features of Bhikki Power Plant and told that modern turbine technology is being used in this project. He said due to the dynamic leadership of Shahbaz Sharif and hard work, we have succeeded in setting up this project and it will be a trend-setter in energy sector.
