Department of Poultry Production of University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore in collaboration with the Pakistan Poultry Association (PPA) observed "World Egg Day" and organised various activities seminar, walk, egg model making contest, funny poetry and presentation to create awareness about the nutritional value of eggs and its importance for the growth of human body, here on Friday.
The newly-elected chairman of (PPA) North Zone, Rai Mansab Ali Kharl presided over the seminar while UVAS Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Talat Naseer Pasha, Dean Faculty of Animal Production and Technology Professor Dr Anjum Khalique, Dr Mustafa Kammal, Raza Mahmood Khursand, Dr Abdul Karim Bhatti, Professor Dr Athar Mahmood and a large number of poultry industry representatives and students were present on the occasion.
Rai Mansab Ali Kharl said on the occasion that poultry industry at present contributes 40 percent of the total meat consumption and generates employment and income for about fifteen hundred thousand people. He also said that eggs have a vital role to play in feeding people around the world, in both developed and developing countries. The eggs have excellent and affordable source of high quality protein, with the potential to feed the world. He appreciated the efforts of UVAS to uplift livestock and poultry sector under the leadership of VC Professor Dr Talat Naseer Pasha. He also lauded the organiser of the event to arrange "World Egg Day" in a befitting manner. While speaking on the occasion, VC Pasha said that we need to initiate school milk programme and provide an egg a day to our children to attract them to schools and improve their health and solve issue of malnutrition and as well as provide market to our dairy and poultry farmers.
