Women Action Forum (WAF) vows to launch the movement against killing of innocent women in the name of honour and who marry at her freewill without consent of their parents and relatives in Sindh province. Representatives of WAF said this while addressing a press conference over the issue held at Khanabadosh Sindh Museum Hyderabad on Saturday.
Speaking to the media, Amar Sindh and Arfana Mallah said that during last year, about 2,185 women were murdered in guise of honour and solemnizing marriage at freewill in the Sindh province. "It shows that five women are being killed per day and which is a serious issue", they said. No adequate steps were taken by the police and other authority concerned to bring the culprits to justice involved in killing of innocent women, they said adding rather the police are seen supporting culprits and pressuring victims to withdraw the cases against them.
They threatened to continue the movement, until sufficient efforts were not taken to bring culprits to justice in the province. On the occasion, Leader of Qomi Awami Tahreek (QAT) Ayaz Latif Palijo said that feudal and other local influential people were allegedly supporting such crimes where the women had lost their lives. Appreciating the WAF for taking efforts, he said that his party would extend support for such big cause.
