Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif sent a written letter to Chairman All Parties Hurriyat Conference Syed Ali Geelani through Pakistan High Commissioner Abdul Basit, in which he had formally invited Geelani to Pakistan. While promising full support to the Kashmiri nation on political, diplomatic and moral fronts in the letter, he said in a clear terms that the granting of right to self-determination of the people of Kashmir was the unfinished agenda of the Pakistan formation and ignoring of that agenda could never establish friendly relationship between the two countries.
According to the Hurriyat spokesman the Pakistan High Commissioner Abdul Basit had invited Geelani at his Tilaknagar New Delhi residence where he handed over the letter of Pakistan Prime Minister to him. On the occasion Deputy High Commissioner of Pakistan Mansoor Ahmad Khan and other High Commission officials were also present while Personal Secretary to Geelani, Peer Saifullah, Secretary Public Relation Altaf Ahmad Shah and Hurriyat spokesman Ayaz Akbar also participated in the function.
While paying rich tributes to the resolve, determination, commitment, straight forwardness and sacrifices of Geelani, the PM of Pakistan in his letter said that "your character and your actions are guiding principles for the coming generations of the Kashmir and I am inviting you to Pakistan so that I too can gain something from your views on the present situations. Hope that you will spare time to visit Pakistan at the earliest".
Nawaz Sharif said "Kashmir is not any border dispute but it is the issue of right to self-determination of 20 million Kashmiri people and we had told in clear terms to India that there are no possibilities available for any progress in the mutual relation of the two countries without addressing the Kashmir issue. The only reason of the cancellation of the NSA level talks was that Indian was reluctant to discuss Kashmir on the table.
The Prime Minister said that "we want friendly and cordial relations with all the neighbouring countries including India but the unrealistic approach of India has always spoiled our desire and it is the major hurdle in our peace efforts with this country." Hurriyat spokesman Ayaz Akbar said Geelani had accepted the Pakistan invitation and said after Almighty Allah, Pakistan was the only visible hope for Kashmiris who openly supported the Kashmir cause and advocated it on the international forums.
