All the contestant political parties including N-league , PTI , PPP and independent candidates expressed their satisfaction over the orderly and peaceful conduct of by-polls in NA-122, PA 147, Lahore and NA-144 Okara on Sunday except for a few minor scuffles between PMJL_N and PTI workers.
However a Magistrate in NA 144 constituency Okara sentenced three people to three months jail term each for trying to disrupt the polling in the area where an independent candidate was leading over its PML_N, PTI and PPP rivals.
The Army and Rangers personnel were deployed to ensure smooth and peaceful polling which started at 8 am and continued uninterrupted till 5 pm. The voters who were present in the compounds of the polling stations were allowed to cast their votes.
The voting turn out was unexpectedly low though both PML-N and PTI fought for their political and electoral survival whereas PPP wanted to make its presence felt in Lahore once a basin of its power and its founding city,
Commenting on the political and electoral impact of the Sunday's polling, eminent analysts observed that "notwithstanding the final result of the most keenly contested by-poll between the de-seated Speaker of the National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq and his main rival Abdul Aleem, Imran Khan 's PTI has emerged as the real opposition force to Nawaz Sharif's (PML-N).in Punjab.
Speaking on a private channel, PTI's Chief Organiser Punjab Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar said that Ayaz Sadiq might win with a majority of two to three thousand votes, yet PTI has laid its foundation in Lahore.
He said the Federal government and the Punjab government had used all methods and resources to win this by-election, yet PTI was much satisfied with its performance in the contest as its candidate for the Provincial Assembly seat 147 was leading over his rival PML-N candidate.
