Strong governance and public financial management needs to sit at the heart of any government looking to develop long-term financial sustainability for public services.
As the world's only professional accountancy body to specialise in public services, CIPFA works across the public and private sectors, with governments, accountancy bodies, donors, and the development community around the world to advance public finance and support better public services.
The recent Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between CIPFA and PIPFA will see the two organisations working closely together to improve transparency and governance by strengthening the accounting profession across Pakistan. Through a Public Financial Management conference held on 12 October in Lahore, jointly organised between CIPFA and PIPFA, and endorsed by the Auditor General of Pakistan, we look forward to helping strengthen the accountancy profession in Pakistan.
CIPFA and PIPFA aim to provide capacity support for reforming and improving public financial management throughout the region. This will include knowledge sharing and skills training for public finance professionals so that they can play their part in developing effective use of resources.
The MOU also helps further cement CIPFAs relationship with Pakistan's accounting profession, coming less than a year after CIPFA signed a similar agreement with ICAP, to develop an International Framework for more effective public sector governance and a better public sector.
