Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Wednesday said that the real purpose behind contesting by-polls was nothing else but to introduce a transparent system in the country. He was addressing the party workers of NA-122 and PP-147 at Garhi Shahu. PTI Punjab organiser Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar, Abdul Aleem Khan, Mian Aslam Iqbal and Shoaib Siddiqui were present on the occasion. Imran said that his party was fighting for a transparent system in the country.
"Our goal is not to win few constituencies. Our struggle is for bringing a fair and transparent judicial system in Pakistan," he said adding that "we didn't have anything else to prove by winning the by-elections." Imran said that the NA-122 by-election was not against Sardar Ayaz Sadiq; it was against both the provincial and federal governments.
He alleged that the Punjab Election Commission (PEC) was with the government so elections could not be transparent. "How can people who won through rigging work fairly?" he asked. He said that for the survival of the country, the Election Commission needed to be free and independent. "This war is not only for contesting elections but it is a first step towards reforming the system," he added. The PTI chairman criticised the ruling party, saying that all three judges who gave verdict against them had been suspended.
Imran criticised Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique for running an election campaign for Ayaz Sadiq. He lauded his party's candidate Aleem Khan for giving Sadiq a good run for his money in the by-poll. Dismissing criticism for giving the party ticket to Aleem Khan, the PTI chairman said he knew who the 'real party worker' was. "Who is a selfie group and who works for the party the whole day, i know it all," he remarked.
While talking about his party he said that he made and developed the party himself by working in the whole country. "Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto was the only other politician who established a party on his own but he remained a minister for eight years during Ayub's regime," he added. Imran specially praised his workers and their role in the NA-122 by elections. "I want to thank all of you and Chaudary Sarwar who has made this party a proper organisation," he stated.
