Egypt, Japan, Senegal, Ukraine and Uruguay were elected unopposed on Thursday to the United Nations Security Council for a two-year term starting January 1, 2016. The 193-member General Assembly elected Egypt with 179 votes in favour, Japan with 184 votes, Senegal with 187 votes, Ukraine with 177 votes and Uruguay with 185 votes. They replace Chad, Chile, Jordan, Lithuania and Nigeria on the 15-member council.
