At least eight alleged terrorists, belonging to a banned outfit, were killed in a `shootout' with police here on Saturday, police said. The deadly `encounter' took place in Manghopir where the police launched an operation against elements allegedly involved in suspicious terrorists activities. SSP Rao Anwar told media persons that the police had launched an operation in Manghopir following receiving information that some alleged terrorists of a banned organisation were hiding there. "Eight alleged terrorists were killed in the encounter, while others managed to escape," he added.
According to details, heavy arms were used in the exchange of fire between police and the alleged terrorists, resulting into death of eight suspected terrorists. Two constable, including SHO Manghopir, suffered injuries in the encounter. Police also blocked the entry and exit points of Northern Bypass area and conducted a search operation. Though the identity of those killed in the encounter could not be ascertained till filing of this report, police claimed they were associated with a banned outfit.
