All Pakistan Bedsheet & Upholstery Manufacturers Association (APBUMA) has strongly opposed the imposition of 15 percent regulatory duty on import of cotton yarn without taking value added sector all stakeholders on board. Syed Muhammad Aasim Shah chairman of APBUMA said that value sector is surprised to know that the FBR has taken some decisions to facilitate textile sector.
He said that the bedsheets ,Table ware, napkins, towel, garments etc value added sector under the banner of APBUMA strongly oppose any regulatory duty imposed on yarn import and also strongly opposed any barrier on import of fabric for garments export. The value-added garment sector should be taken into confidence while forming national polices regarding textile chain.
According to Aasim, value added sector was totally ignored and not taken on board for any consultation. The sector is the only segment of textiles, which showed an increase of more than 10% out of total textile sector in Pakistan's exports of 2014-2015. This performance clearly pointed towards the fact that the garment sector needs to be given priority in active consultation on policy issues. Aasim strongly requested concerned quarter's not to take any decisions without taking whole value added sector into confidence.
This sector is not only a highly value added sector but also a major foreign exchange earner, major taxpayers in textile chain and larger employment provider The value added sector is not against any sub-sector but we want all textile chain to be safeguarded because the sector has a tough competition in garments, bedsheets, bedwares, with our regional competitors like Bangladesh, China and India etc.
