The Pakistan Awami Tehreek and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf have announced to launch a movement after the October 31 Local Government elections against rigging, corruption and the government attitude. The announcement came on Thursday following a meeting between Pakistan Awami Tehreek secretary General Khurram Nawaz Gandapur and PTI's provincial chief organiser and former Punjab governor Chaudhry Sarwar at the former's Model Town secretariat.
Chaudhry Sarwar, who was accompanied by party leader Aleem Khan, while Basharat Jaspal, Mohammed Saeed Rajpoot, Chaudhry Ishtiaq and Raja Zahid represented the Tehreek, agreed to launch the anti-government movement that would focus on the Model Town tragedy, planned election rigging and rampant corruption in the Punjab government. The delegations also discussed the current political situation for over an hour. After the talks, a co-ordination committee was set up in which three representatives from each party whose names would be announced next week.
Speaking to media persons, leaders said that "The real face of the rulers has been exposed after the Model Town incident and the implication of heirs of the martyred Tehreek workers by the court was a shameful act while the real culprits have not even been mentioned in the whole proceedings." Chaudhry Sarwar then thanked PAT Chairman Dr Tahirul Qadri and leaders for their support and for withdrawing their candidates in favour of those in NA-122 and PP-147. He also said, "From October 26 onwards, we will present solid evidence against the government rigging in the elections to the media."
