The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Nasir Khan Durrani Thursday visited police command post in Kohati Gate area of the City to review security arrangements for peaceful observance of Muharram. The IGP went round different sections of the post and inspected and reviewed in detail the security steps taken for peaceful observance of Muharram. SSP Operation Peshawar Dr Mian Saeed briefed the IGP about the security managements and live monitoring of the processions.
The IGP expressed satisfaction over the steps taken by the police and issued further instructions to the police high ups present on this occasion. The IGP also met separately with the delegation of Ahle Tashie, Ahle Sunnat and exchanged views with them about the security arrangements adopted by the police in the command post. Both the delegations expressed full satisfaction over the adopted security measures and assured their full co-operation for peaceful observance of Muharram. The IGP also met with the officials of other departments who were performing duty at the post.
Talking with the media on the occasion the IGP pointed out that KPK is the most sensitive province of the country regarding Muharram. Command posts had been established in all districts of the province. Mourning processions will be taken out in 12 districts of the province out of which 5 districts ie Peshawar, Hangu, Kohat, DI Khan and Tank had been declared most sensitive districts.
The IGP said that terrorism was the real threat and police force throughout the province had been made fully alert to meet the impending terrorism threat added that in joint operation with other law enforcement agencies some terrorists have been nabbed at Peshawar Hayatabad, Mansehra, Swabi and Charsadda and suicide jackets, explosive materials, maps, detonator and arms have been recovered from them and the arrested terrorists have confessed by carrying out attacks on Muharram procession. To an another question the IGP said that fool proof security are being adopted and live monitoring will be carried out of all processions and revolving cameras had been installed on the new vehicles of the police which will monitor all the routes effectively.
