Police on Thursday announced traffic management plan for 9th and 10th of Muharram, restraining all kinds of vehicular traffic on the routes of processions in the city. According to the plan, issued by office of Deputy Inspector General of Police (Traffic), , an Alam procession would be taken out on 9th Muharram from Markazi lmambargah Liaquatabad that would first go to Martin Road Imambargah and thereafter, it would come to Nishtar Park where Majlis would be held at about 12am.
Later, a procession would be taken out from Nishtar Park and it would culminate at Hussainian lrañian Imambargah, Kharadar after passing through its traditional route of Mehfil-e-Shah-e-Khurasan, M A Jinnah Road, Preedy Street, M A Jinnah Road, Boultan Market, Bombay Bazaar, Kharadar, Nawab Muhammad Khanji Road, to Hussainian Iranian Imambargha. Similarly, on 10th of Muharram, a large Majlis would be held at Nishtar Park from 7:30am to 9:00am, and after that a procession would start and proceed via the above mentioned route. As soon as the procession would start from Nishtar Park, all vehicular traffic coming from the city side would be diverted towards Soldier Bazaar Road from the junction of M A Jinnah Road/Dr Dawoodpota Road. Traffic coming from Nazimabad side will be diverted from Lasbella towards Nishtar Road and towards the Zoological Gardens.
Similarly, traffic coming from Stadium Road side should proceed via New M A Jinnah Road. These vehicles would be diverted from Dadabhoy Noorji Road towards Kashmir Road, Society Light Signal, Shahrah-e-Quaideen to Sharea Faisal.
Traffic coming from Superhighway side shall be diverted from Liaquatabad No 10 towards Chowrangi No 2 Nazimabad and shall proceed via Habib Bank Chowk, Estate Avenue Road, Shershah to Mauripur Road and while for their return journey these vehicles shall adopt the same route. In the same way, traffic approaching from National Highway side shall proceed via Rashid Minhas Road, Stadium Road, Sir Shah Suleman Road, Hassan Square, Liaquatabad No 10, Nazimabad Chowrangi No 2, Habib Bank, Estate Avenue Road, Shershah, Mauripur Road and for their return journey these vehicles shall also adopt the same route.
Traffic would not be allowed to proceed towards the route of the procession from Guru Mandir (roundabout). These vehicles shall be diverted onto Bahadur Yar Jang Road and again onto Khan Bahadur Naqi Muhammad Khan Road and under no circumstances these vehicles shall be permitted to proceed along Soldier Bazaar Road from the junction of Khan Bahadur Naqi Muhammad Khan Road.
Vehicles coming towards Quaid-e-Azam Mazar via M. A. Jinnah Road would be diverted towards Bahadur Yar Jang Road. No vehicular traffic will be permitted to proceed towards Old Exhibition. All vehicular traffic approaching towards the Old Exhibition via Shahrah-e-Quaideen (except those arriving for participating in the procession with stickers pasted on their wind screens issued from this office) shall not be allowed to proceed from the roundabout of Society Office roundabout behind the Quaid's Mazar. Traffic going towards Saddar and other colonies will not be permitted to proceed towards Empress Market from the junction of Preedy Street /M. A. Jinnah Road, Court Road Chowk and Fresco Chowk when the head of the procession reaches near M .A. Jinnah Road crossing.
On 10th Muharram, the vehicular traffic coming from Keamari side will be diverted towards Shireen Jinnah via Musan Road and, similarly, all the vehicular traffic coming from West Wharf and Mauripur side will not be allowed to proceed ahead after the ICI Chowk.
Traffic arrangements have also been made for the processions to be taken out on the night of the 10th Muharram. All buses proceeding towards Saddar from Jamshed Road side will not be permitted to come towards Mansfield Street after 10pm, and these vehicles will be sent straight onto M.A. Jinnah Road. Similarly, buses coming towards Saddar and wanted to go to residential colonies via Shahrah-e-Liaquat, Empress Market will be diverted onto Muhammad Bin Qasim Road/MA. Jinnah Road and all the vehicles wanted to go to Malir and Sharea Faisal will be diverted onto court Road, Maulana Wafai Road, A.H. Road, M.W. Road to Sharea Faisal. All buses coming towards Saddar from Korangi side will be diverted back from the junction of Mansfield Street/Rafiqui Shaheed Road /Sarwar Shaheed Road (Lucky Star).
Preedy Street, M.A. Jinnah Road, Mansfield Street and Shahra-e-Iraq will be closed for all vehicles by 8pm or earlier, if needed. The residents of the area will be permitted to reach to their residences. All buses coming towards Tower from Lea Market and other colonies will be using the route of Aga Khan Road, Dalumal Chela Ram Road, Meer Muhammad Baloch Road and Sheedi Village Road.
