'The Rangers and Police have made heavy deployment of force to provide foolproof security to processions on 10th of Muharram all over Sindh. Since there are over 216 most sensitive areas, therefore deployment of 64,414 policemen and 7,408 Rangers personnel have been finalised.' This was stated in a law & order meeting chaired by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah to review final security arrangements for 10th of Muharram-ul-Haram procession here on Friday.
Those who attended the meeting include Home Minister Sohail Anwar Siyal, Chief Secretary Siddique Memon, DG Rangers Major General Bilal Akbar, IG Sindh Ghulam Hyder Jamali, Home Secretary Mohammad Waseem, Additional IG Karachi Mushatque Mahar, Additional IG CTD Sanaullah Abbasi, Additional IG Special Branch Sultan Khwaja, provincial heads of intelligence agencies and others. The Chief Minister said "after the two incidents in Balochistan, we have to be more alert. All the agencies, including Police, Rangers and intelligence have to make co-ordinated efforts to provide foolproof security to the Ashura processions."
Director General Rangers Major General Bilal Akbar briefing the meeting said that 4,663 Rangers personnel had been deployed at 79 vulnerable points in the metropolis. He further said that in Jacobabad, Shikarpur, Sukkur and Khairpur 104 vulnerable points had been identified. "We have deployed 1,518 Rangers force in Hyderabad and Mirpukhas divisions and 1,227 in Northern areas of the province," he said, adding the Sector and Wing Commanders would personally lead the forces.
The DG Rangers also said he had intensified operation against the terrorists in which most important arrests have been made. "Since investigation process was in progress, therefore their details would be shared in the next law & order meeting," he said. IG police Ghulam Hyder Jamali said he alongwith DG Rangers in support of intelligence agencies had prepared the security plan for Muharram-ul-Harram. He expressed hope that the processions would pass peacefully. The chief minister expressed satisfaction on the close co-ordination between various secret and law enforcement agencies for the peace and security. "You are our eyes, ears and arms. I have always supported you and strengthened you," he remarked.
